Meriem Bennani is an artist who looks for humor in their works, finding it hard to connect with any art that lacks this specific trait. She states that she sees a video and wonders what could be added to that clip in order to make it funny or more interesting. She constantly posts her work on social media platforms such as Instagram or Snapchat in order to share her videos with the world.

One of her more popular works was a commission she did in 2016 called Fly. The video is a bit bizarre to watch as it features a little 3 dimensional fly buzzing around and talking. To me, it has a surreal feel to it, but it's also very cool to watch.

Benanni's largest project as of right now was a 30 second looped video of women wearing hijabs featured on a large outdoor screen at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The hijabs change throughout the video, representing different holiday's throughout the year for that festive feel.

  1. It's interesting to see how social media has provided a revival of video art, at least for Benanni. With many of these platforms, such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, promoting visual-based content that is generally short, it makes sense for video art to thrive in these environments. It looks like her works are highly conceptual, personal, and definitely comedic as well.

  2. I also wrote a blog post about Bennani and some of her artworks. I found "Fly" to be her most interesting works because it showed the 3D fly going around Morocco. Her other works included installations as well, but she is most well known for her comedic and artistic videos.
